• What is the difference between an electric fly killer and an insect light trap?

  An electric fly killer (EFK) uses a high-voltage grid to eliminate insects on contact, producing a zapping sound. An insect light trap (ILT) uses UV light to attract insects onto a silent adhesive catch board. ILTs are preferred for front-of-house, retail, and healthcare environments where a discreet, silent solution is required.

• How often do UV tubes need to be replaced?

  UV tubes lose their insect-attracting effectiveness after approximately 8,000 hours of use — typically 12 months. We replace UV tubes on every annual service visit to ensure your units continue to attract and eliminate insects at full capacity

• Where should units be positioned for best results?

  Units should be placed near insect entry points such as doors and windows, but not in direct line of sight from entry points — this can attract insects in rather than intercepting them. Our technicians conduct a site assessment and recommend optimal placement for every installation.

• Can I change my service frequency later?

• Are your units safe to use in food preparation areas?

  Yes. All units supplied by Star Hygiene are chemical-free and HACCP-friendly, making them safe for use in commercial kitchens, food processing areas, and any environment where food is prepared, stored, or served. EFK units in food areas use shatter-resistant UV tubes to prevent contamination.
